Best Time to Visit Caloundra

The subtropical climate and easy lifestyle of Caloundra make it easy to take a break here any time of the year, however, the best time of the year to holiday in Caloundra is August and September.

Daytime temperatures in August and September range from 19 to 20 degrees with sea temps around 22 degrees.

During the summer months, the daytime temps range from 25 to 26 degrees with an average sea temp of 26 degrees.

Pumicestone Passage

Pumicestone Passage is a 35 km channel of stunning water that stretches from the tip of Bribie Island near Caloundra in the North, to Deception Bay in the South.

The passage that is part of the Moreton Bay Marine Park, is a narrow, shallow estuary, made up of a system of tidal channels and sandbanks and is the perfect place to explore on a paddleboard, kayak, catamaran or jet ski.

These are stunning waterways where you can see dolphins playing around in the ocean as well as other marine life such as dugongs and turtles. It is also a fantastic location for fishing with tailor, bream, jewfish and prawns to be found within the waterways.

This passage is also home to around 24 species of migratory shorebirds and 11 species of resident native shorebirds.

Pumicestone is recognised as one of the most important bird and marine habitats on the East Coast of Australia.

Caloundra Coastal Walk

The Caloundra Coastal walk is a 25km stretch from Golden Beach in the south to Mooloolaba in the north. You can pick up the walk from various points along the way and certainly do not have to do the 25km stretch. The track takes you past some of the best beaches and estuaries along the coast and up the headlands for stunning coastal views.

The full walk takes around 4 hours but varies widely depending on your pace.

The Coastal walk starts at Golden Beach. A calm stretch of water protected from the ocean by Bribie Island. Following this walk takes you towards Bulcock Beach. Bulcock Beach is a popular spot for families and children, a coastal boardwalk follows the edge of the stunning blue waters.
