The Sunshine Coast – Ideal Holiday Location

The Sunshine Coast stretches from the coastal city of Caloundra, near Brisbane, to the Great Sandy National Park in the North and is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Australia.

The Sunshine Coast is home to some stunning landscapes and pretty villages, renowned surf spots and spectacular rural hinterland. Noosa is another extremely well-known holiday haven near the Sunshine Coast, with so many cafes and restaurants, fashion boutiques and a variety of shops along the famous Hastings Street, there is plenty to do for everyone.

Surfers and golfers will love the holiday town of Coolum. Beautiful surf beaches and 18 hole golf courses. Eumundi in the Noosa Hinterland will satisfy market shoppers, art lovers and alternative lifestyles with the famous Eumundi Markets. The markets have a range of shops in a stunning setting, food stalls and cafes. A beautiful part of the world to spend a day, strolling around the quaint but bustling village of Eumundi.

The Sunshine Coast is a 2-hour drive from Brisbane and is serviced by Sunshine Coast Airport located at Marcoola.

The Sunshine Coast is a large region, so hiring a car if you don’t have your own is probably the best way to get around. This gives you the freedom to explore the region and make the most of your holiday.

Things to do on the Sunshine Coast

Whale Watching

The best months for Whale watching and swimming are July to October, when the whales are migrating.

Sunreef at Mooloolaba offers trips to swim with the whales. Sunreef is Australia’s first swim with the whales operator. This is certainly an activity worth doing. Even if it is just once in your lifetime. Whales are truly magnificent animals, so make the most of this trip to the Sunshine Coast.

Markets and Wineries

The Sunshine Coast is full of creative communities that they embrace to bring fantastic markets and wineries to the holidaymakers and locals alike. There are plenty of artisan and farmers markets to browse and each one is distinctly different.

The Eummundi Markets are one of the must visit markets on the Sunchine Coast. Held every Wednesday and Saturday, they attract market-goers from all over the Sunshine Coast and are quite possibly the most famous markets in the region. Oter great markets include Noosa Farmer market and Peregian Beach Market.

For the wine lovers on holiday, there are plenty of vineyards situated in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, because of the cooler climate.  The best wineries on the Sunshine Coast include Flame Hill Vineyard, Settlers Rise Wines, Mason Wones Montville, Ocean View Estate and Dingo Creek Vineyard. These wineries offer cellar door tastings and tours. Make sure to check local guides for days and times.

The Sunshine Coast Hinterland is a stunning area of the region. Gardeners Falls is a hidden gem that is easily accessible and stunningly beautiful. There are freshwater swimming holes and picnic areas to relax and have lunch.

Kondilla falls offers walking tracks and the opportunity to have a swim among the clusters of smaller waterfalls. This is a must-see when holidaying on the Sunshine Coast.

The Best Beaches on the Sunshine Coast

There is an abundance of fantastic beaches on and around the Sunshine Coast. Which beach you choose to go to depends on whether you are planning to surf, sunbake or just enjoy the beach with the kids.

The most popular beaches on the Sunshine Coast include Noosa Main Beach, which runs along Hastings Street, where all the restaurants, cafes and shops are.
